Mandeni Local Municipality officials together with ILembe District Municipality officials rolled out yet another ‘Thuma Mina’ campaign on 04 - 05 October 2018 at Manda farm Location, ward 7, Mandeni.

The main focus of this campaign was to get feedback from the community regarding service delivery and to encourage the public to be part of this nationwide campaign through paying for services in order to enhance municipal revenues as well as the standard of service delivery.

The ‘Thuma mina’ campaign was launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa during his inaugural State of The Nation Address earlier this year, the campaign is about government reconnecting with the people through activities that, improve people's lives and solve the problems they face.

During this campaign, it was discovered that several households had faulty water meters, leakages and illegal connections. The officials from both Mandeni and ILembe Municipalities were on hand to assist the community members with whatever problems they had.

Speaking during this campaign, Mandeni Local Municipality Speaker, Makhosazane Zungu said that it is important to engage the public in this manner as it ensures that officials know firsthand about the problems affecting the people they serve.

“This is important as it helps us to know what exactly is it that our people need, it also helps to educate people about the importance of working together with government” said Zungu before concluding by urging the public to engage with government about the issues affecting them in order to improve the standard of service delivery.

Furthermore; this campaign is also in line with the Municipality’s vision to be a reliable people centered and sustainable economic hub by 2030.
