The Mandeni Municipality Executive Council held a three day reflective brainstorming session at the Ocean Reef Hotel in Zinkwazi. The session included both the political and administrative municipal leadership. This three day gathering was done with the sole purpose of doing introspective reflection on municipal activities that have been implemented during the first six months of the 2016/17 financial year. The mid-year departmental reports, and annual report included in this session, will provide the full picture of what has been happening in the municipality and how to move forward in the upcoming financial year.
Addressing the Exco members Mayor Cllr Sphesihle Zulu said he is confident that the year 2017 will be a year of triumph for the Municipality. “We are confident that this is going to be a year of triumph which will be characterized by the double commitment from all councillors and officials, this is the year that we want to close all service delivery gaps that currently exist,” said Mayor Zulu. His worship thanked the previous council for they dedicated service to the municipality. “The previous Council ensured that they leave a functional municipality which has a good governance record as they have achieved clean audit in three consecutive terms.
The Municipality has implemented a staff disciplinary code of conduct as guided by the relevant policy and legislative frameworks in as far as institutional arrangements and municipal transformation is concerned. It was also recommended that the mid-year budget and performance assessment be approved for submission to the Council by the 31st of January 2017. It was also recommended that an adjustment budget be prepared, that the executive committee considers the updated risk register, the executive committee resolves to recommend adoption by the Council of the updated risk register, the proposed Auditor General Action plan be reviewed and approved by the executive committee, and that the proposed Auditor General Action plan form part of the Annual report.
A new Community Services Manager has been hired by the Mandeni Municipality. The municipality will now also insource the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) with three municipal staff members employed in the month of December 2016, furthermore the municipality continued with implementing its staff training programme that will also entail the councillors training this year.
