Mandeni Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr. Thabani Mdlalose addressing the Black Industrialist Digital Transformation launch at Isithebe.

Mandeni Local Municipality hosted a successful Black Industrialist Digital Transformation Launch and Exhibition on 31 October 2019 at Isithebe Industrial Hub. This ground-breaking initiative is aimed at unearthing Black Industrialists and equipping them with the latest technological skills to sustain their businesses and be in line with the 4th Industrial Revolution. This programme will be spearheaded by the Department of Trade & Industry, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government and Microsoft South Africa.

Speaking at this occasion, His Worship the Mayor of Mandeni Local Municipality, Cllr. Thabani Mdlalose assured all in attendance that the Municipality is dedicated to keeping existing investors while attracting new ones.

“We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that iSithebe retain its glory days when it used to attract over 40 000 employees”

Mdlalose also highlighted the significance of prioritizing the Youth in a bid to create a sustainable society. The mayor also shared the Municipality’s plans of uplifting young people while urging other role-players to follow suit.

“60% of our population compromises of Young People who are below the age of 35, most of our plans, largely our IDP programme is biased to Young People. Among the programmes that are going to enhance economic development amongst our youth is the establishment of the Youth Enterprise Park to stimulate entrepreneurship opportunities for our Young people with the latest technological facilities at the CBD” said Mdlalose.

In conclusion, the Mayor cited that the Mandeni has a broad and inclusive plan to revitalize iSithebe Industrial Hub which includes involving all sectors of economy, big and small.

“We are also interacting with informal traders in Isithebe and Mandeni at large to address their concerns and reaffirm that they too are an important stakeholder in our economy. We did this to express our condemnation of the senseless violence, criminality and intolerance taking place at the time, and to comfort those affected by these acts. To all leaders present here, let us continue to work together to move Isithebe forward” concluded Mdlalose.

The day’s proceedings were folded at Sibusisiwe Hall with an exhibition by various agencies such as CIPC, NEF, SANAS, NCR and NCC to mention a few. Aspiring business people were presented with an opportunity to rub shoulders with industry experts and were exposed to funding opportunities.

Sduduzo Gumede, Mandeni Municipality Councillors and representatives from different government departments were among the dignitaries present during this event.
